In the last decade, there has been a significant rise in the number of global social movements, generating claims of a new networked era of global social movements, in which young people often play a central role. Young generations and social movements tend to identify with a diverse set of social and political issues on both a global and local scale, while often displaying a progressive and transversal outlook. Among these youth social movements, we find Fridays For Future, a youth climate organization noted for its unique scope and tactics as well as for illustrating the prominence of environmental issues in youth activism. Since 2018, the movement has progressively grown into a network composed of many local and national groups across the world. Beyond analysis of the global character of the movement and the profile and motivations of its activists, it seems opportune to look at how—at the organizational level—these local groups evolve and position themselves. Based on a social network and a content analysis of Fridays For Future-Barcelona's Twitter account since its creation, this article explores the organization's "glocal" and transversal dynamics, the relationship that might exist between these two, and the potential influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on these processes. The results show that, stemming from a global preoccupation for climate change, this Youth Climate Movement organization has been increasingly oriented towards local-level networking, anchoring its activism in local struggles and realities. They also show a positively-associated process—reinforced by the COVID-19 pandemic—of increasing transversality, reflecting aspirations for global justice and the idea of an interdependency between climate change and other social, political and economic issues.

Summary (analytical) This article highlights the existence of a cross-cutting element in the relationship of youth with the public sphere, which contributes to a better understanding of the nature of its political expressions: the assimilation of a certain peripheral position imposed within the social area. The idea of social space, and in particular that of periphery, contributes to the coherence of certain phenomena and trends in the socio-political mobilisation of youth as a whole. To this end, three youth movements that emerged in Barcelona in 2019, in which young people played a particular role, were analysed. The differences and similarities between the three movements show the versatility of the concept of periphery, which serves to visualise the vital precariousness that identifies a whole generation, beyond its differences. ; Resumen (analítico) Este artículo pone de manifiesto la existencia de un elemento transversal en la relación de la juventud con la esfera pública, que contribuye a comprender mejor la naturaleza de sus expresiones políticas: la asimilación de una cierta posición periférica impuesta dentro del espacio social. The lockdown imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak as well as the resulting surge in the use of digital technologies and social media for activism or social life all represent a unique opportunity to study the relationship between online and offline activism. To do so, we focus on the Barcelona branch of Fridays For Future, the recent and global youth climate movement that expanded through social networks and organised several largescale global protests. Based on data from Fridays For Future-Barcelona's Twitter account, the analysis looks at and compares the level of activity and interactions during normal times and during the lockdown. The results suggest a close and mutually-reinforcing relationship between offline and online activism, with peaks of Twitter activity and interactions usually revolving around offline protest actions. They also show that the lockdown period was characterised by an increase in the number of tweets but a decrease in the number of interactions and thus in the repercussion of the movement on social networks. ; El confinamiento impuesto a raíz del brote de COVID-19, así como el consecuente aumento en el uso de tecnologías digitales y redes sociales para el activismo y la vida social, representan una oportunidad única para estudiar la relación entre el activismo online y offline. Con este propósito analizamos el movimiento de Fridays For Future en Barcelona, parte del reciente movimiento climático global y juvenil que se ha expandido a través de las redes sociales, organizando protestas globales y manifestaciones a gran escala. Basado en datos de la cuenta de Twitter de Friday For Future-Barcelona, el artículo compara el nivel de actividad e interacciones durante el período de normalidad en relación con confinamiento. Los resultados sugieren una relación estrecha y de refuerzo mutuo entre el activismo online y offline, con picos de actividad e interacciones en Twitter que generalmente giran en torno a acciones de protesta en la calle. This article discusses how non‐formal arts education attenuates socioeconomic and cultural barriers in a vulnerable context. Although cultural capital has usually been conceived as dependent on high socioeconomic status, we explore the inclusiveness of a project of non‐formal education and how it enhances the capacity of youth to achieve empowerment and self‐confidence through the arts. We analyse the case study of a non‐formal arts educational organisation located in a deprived neighbourhood of Barcelona (Spain) and identify several key factors associated with successful social inclusion and its limitations. We find that the pedagogical processes involved create both learning opportunities and social and interpersonal skills useful for the present and future lives of the young participants. Methodologically, the case study combines non‐participant observation of the different activities of the organisation and semi‐structured qualitative interviews with young people and educators. The article concludes with some recommendations for considering artistic non‐formal education as a tool in any social inclusion agenda.

In 2019 the climate movement experienced an unprecedented growth in its mobilization capacity and its political and media impact. This success is closely linked to the rise of Greta Thunberg and her global impact, as well as to the organization effort of "Fridays for Future" in hundreds of local groups around the globe. This paper studies the connection between these two elements based on the movement frame analysis and its dissemination on social media. Through an analysis of the activists' speeches and social media messages, Greta's key role in the establishment and evolution of a new frame for the climate movement can be seen. This is reinforced and legitimized with her own personal story told through the hero's journey or monomyth. Then, the inclusion and adaptation of Greta's frame in the local group of "Fridays for Future" in Barcelona based on the content analysis of its publications on Twitter and Instagram will be analyzed. The results show how, despite the reluctance regarding personified leadership, Greta's frame has a significant influence on the discourse of the local movement and on the "Fridays for Future" Barcelona's social media followers. The analysis also provides empirical evidence of the relevance of glocal dynamics in online social movements.

En 2019 el movimiento climático da un paso adelante sin precedentes en su capacidad de movilización e impacto político y mediático. El éxito del movimiento está muy vinculado tanto a la figura de Greta Thunberg y su impacto global, como a la implantación de «Fridays for Future» en centenares de ciudades de todo el mundo. Este artículo analiza la relación entre estos dos elementos a través del análisis del marco del movimiento y su diseminación en redes sociales. En concreto se muestra, a través del análisis de los discursos y mensajes en redes sociales de la activista, el papel clave de Greta en el establecimiento de un nuevo marco del movimiento climático y cómo este se refuerza y legitima con su propia historia personal contada a través del arquetípico viaje del héroe o monomito. This article analyses to what extent the social and solidarity economy (SSE), the aim of which is to prioritize people's needs and well-being, can offer young people education-to-work transitions conditions and opportunities which are different from those in the conventional economy. The very nature of SSE means that it is especially suitable for challenging gender inequality and proves to be exceptionally useful for testing feminist economics. Against a backdrop of economic crisis, SSE has shown greater resilience when compared to other sectors, although it is still not widespread. To examine how SSE can improve young women's experiences and labour trajectories, this article analyses working conditions, job satisfaction and gender roles in school-to-work transitions of young women in SSE in Catalonia. Results show that the collective and value-driven nature of SSE entails a specific awareness and commitment that empower young women's transitions experiences and expectations.

This document is sharing the methodological perspective on ethnography and data analysis of the TRANSGANG project. The aim is to provide to the local research teams a guide about ethnographic perspectives, tools and data analyses strategy, to be able to apply using NVivo software, and some references to ensure these perspectives. The objective of the TRANSGANG project is a comparative investigation based on one stage of local analysis and two stages of secondary analysis of the data collected according to the methodological approach. These three-level analyses will combine the results in a unique and transnational picture of street youth groups without losing the cultural particularities of the different places. The central and contrast cases involve a combination of qualitative techniques (our tools) such as narrative interviews, focus groups, life stories and participant observation, but it is necessary to work with similar analysis categories in each country. ; This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 742705

LEBAN tiene como objetivo evaluar el resultado de los procesos de constitución de asociaciones e intentos de tregua con agrupaciones juveniles de calle en las dos primeras décadas del siglo XXI, analizando qué funcionó y qué falló. Se centra en el caso español, con estudios en profundidad de los tres territorios donde las pandillas tienen mayor presencia: Cataluña, Madrid y Comunidad Valenciana. Dicho estudio se comparará con el caso ecuatoriano, donde la constitución de asociaciones contó con el apoyo del gobierno, y con el caso salvadoreño, donde la "tregua" con las maras tuvo éxito a corto plazo, pero acabó fracasando. Cuatro retos organizan los workpackages del proyecto: realizar un análisis macro de las percepciones sociales en torno a las bandas, a partir de Big Data, análisis de redes sociales y estadísticas oficiales; hacer un análisis meso de las políticas públicas y de las sentencias judiciales; a nivel micro, analizar los procesos de legalización evaluando los puntos fuertes y débiles de tales procesos, vinculado a un repertorio de buenas prácticas en el ámbito local y global, incidiendo en políticas públicas preventivas y experiencias de justicia restaurativa. Además de un análisis retrospectivo de los últimos 15 años, el proyecto propone una mirada al futuro próximo, planteando cuales son las políticas más efectivas para prevenir la deriva criminal de las bandas.
